How to Do Arm and Hand Massage?
We use our arms and hands throughout the day. This gives a lot of tension and pain in the hands, wrists, and arms. The arms and hands massage is very useful to relieve pain that come with the excessive use of arms and hands. The arm and hand massage can be done within 5-10 minutes and it will soon relieve pain in the body.
Benefits of arms and hands massage
1. When we massage our hands, fingers and joints, this not only relieves pain from arms and hands, but also solves problems of poor blood circulation and arthritis.
2. With arms and hands massage the effects will be passed onto the chest by reflex action. So, with this massage technique we can also reduce any pressure in the neck and head due to nervous and circulatory effects.
Steps for arms and hands massage -
1. Smooth on the oil as before. When working on the arm it’s easier to effleurage with one hand only, using the other to hold the arm steady.
2. Bend the arm at the elbow. Massage around the wrist with little thumbs circles using both hands.
3. Work down from the wrist to the ends of the fingers using little thumbs circles. Repeat five times.
4. Stretch each finger, then thumb, in turn between your finger and thumb.
5. Rotate the fingers and thumb first clockwise then anti-clockwise.
6. Turn the hand over and rub gently along the solar plexus (from centre wrist down the palm to the middle finger) using alternate thumbs. This is calming to the nervous system.
7. Rotate the hand at the wrist clockwise then anti-clockwise. To do this lock your fingers into your partner’s.
8. Turn the hand over and work on the inside of the wrist up to the elbow using alternate sweeping movements. Repeat four or five times.
9. Bend the arm at the elbow and bring the lower arm up and across the chest. Squeeze all along the upper arm from elbow to shoulder using both hands.
10. Bring the arm back down to the side then effleurage the whole area from hand to shoulder four or five times. Cover the arm and repeat on the other side.
Massaging the arms and hands will not only give relief from pain and tension in the hands, wrists, and arms but also make them more beautiful and strong.

Am looking for instructions to turn a couch back and arms into a headboard like I've seen on TV. Ideas?
It looks as though the mattress fits right into where the seat cusions would normally go...so you can use the couch back and arms to lounge into while reading in bed.
Essentially, you're right. But you will need to make a platform that marries up to the front edge of the couch so that you can support the mattress. You will not be able to use box springs with this method, unless you disassemble the front of the couch which is another project.
Make a frame with 2 x 4's and some cross bars for rigidity. Put plywood to fit on top and secure to the support pieces with wood screws. You can purchase either 2 inch round stock or 2 x 2's and cut them to the leg length that will make your platform even with the couch front. Attach with angle iron. Or you can do the same, 2 x 4's.
Sand the top of the plywood smooth so that it doesn't harm your mattress, and paint with a couple of coats of polyurethane.
You may want to install a lip around the edge of the platform so that your mattress doesn't slip side to side or off of the end.
If you want to hide the edges and "feet" of the platform and make it look more a part of the couch, go to a fabric store and purchase fabric that is heavy enough to hold it's shape,
(measure the distance from the edge of the wood to the floor and double it plus 2 inches.) and purchase enough to go on the sides, up to the couch--and across the end. If the fabric comes in widths larger than 36 inches, you may well be able to get two strips out of a width, so factor that in.
Cut the pieces for the sides, fold and tuck a one inch rough edge in on each side so that you have a finished edge. Staple to the edge of the plywood with the fold at the bottom. Repeat for the end--making sure that the end edges are tucked in also--so that no raw edges show. Make allowances for this when cutting the fabric.
Or, buy a bedspread larger than your bed so that it goes almost to the floor all the way 'round your platform. Dust ruffles are available but you would have to have one long enough to cover your wood and extend to the floor. You would have to cut the top off where the platform meets the couch.

A Force Of Arms $22.91 Armed with GI battle gear and his jaded, world-weary screen persona, William Holden pushes toward Rome with the famed Texas 36th Division Infantry in Force of Arms, from the author of Guadalcanal Diary.VCWBA049791 001As sergeant and a WAC officer. While on leave, Holden and Olson fall in love, but before long Holden is sent back to the front. Surviving the battle of San Pietro, Holden is tortured by the fact that he may have choked under fire, indirectly causing the deaths of his CO Frank Lovejoy and several of his comrades. Even after his happy marriage to Olson, Holden cannot purge himself of his guilt feelings. Despite his wife's protestations, Holden re-ups to atone for past mistakes. Told that Holden is missing in action, Nancy refuses to give her husband up for dead and heads for the front herself. Officially based on a short story by Richard Tregaskis, this drama is actually a semi-remake of Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms, previously filmed in 1932 (this may partially explain why Warner Bros., producers of Force of Arms, purchased the rights to the 1932 film). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |

Call to Arms $11.02 With three and a half decades under their belt, British heavy metal group Saxon show little sign of slowing down -- or of catering to modern tastes. Call to Arms, their 19th album, features the traditional New Wave of British Heavy Metal sound in a slightly earthier production than on the band's previous few efforts and offers songs that wouldn't have been out of place on their 1979 debut or any of their classic albums. Deep Purple keyboarder Don Airey guests on "When Doomsday Comes" (which was written for the movie Hybrid Theory). The two-CD edition features seven live tracks recorded back in 1980 at Donington. ~ Christian Genzel, Rovi |

Babes in Arms $10.38 Wayne Kramer assembled this collection of 15 rare MC5 tracks, and while trying to cover the career of a band who helped give birth to punk rock AND made it onto Spiro Agnew's enemies list might seem like a near-impossible task in less than an hour, Babes in Arms does a pretty respectable job of capturing what the MC5 were all about in one convenient package. Most of the cuts on Babes in Arms are alternate versions of songs from the band's three studio albums, but while the most of the tracks appear in variant mixes or longer edits, the differences are minimal enough that they can pass for the originals in a pinch (one crucial exception: a great acoustic version of Fred "Sonic" Smith's "Shakin' Street"), making Babes in Arms a solid "Best of the MC5" collection. Even more importantly, the set also includes several excellent and hard to find early single sides, including the amusing garage-protest nugget "One of the Guys" and a primal, in-the-red rave-up on "Looking at You" that leaves the version on Back in the U.S.A. in the dust. The one previously unreleased song, "Gold," is an unfocused jam that doesn't really go anywhere, and the sound quality of the source materials isn't all that hot (especially on the CD version), but otherwise Babes in Arms is a howling, furious blast of what made the MC5 one of the finest (and most dangerous) American rock bands of the 1960s. Crank it up loud -- the guys would want it that way. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Performers: Dennis Thompson - Drums; Fred "Sonic" Smith - Vocals, Guitar; Michael Davis - Bass; Robin Tyner - Vocals; Wayne Kramer - Piano, Guitar, Bass |

Coat of Arms $15.98 As Canada gradually becomes the world capitol of indie pop, the Great White North might find its home to more worthwhile bands than it knows what to do with. Toronto's the Golden Dogs seemingly got a taste of what it's like to learn your credit score in rock isn't as high as you might hope when, after a long run of touring behind their 2006 album Big Eye Little Eye, they were dropped by their record label, and found themselves without a bass player when Stew Heyduk decided to settle down with his new bride in Hawaii. But a few bouts with adversity have, if anything, made the Golden Dogs a better band; their fourth album, 2011's Coat of Arms, is an eclectic and finely crafted set that finds this group stepping up with a dozen great new songs and playing them with enthusiasm, intelligence, and a welcome sense of aural adventure. The tunes on Coat of Arms, written by guitarist and founder Dave Azzolini, are clever and built around hook-laden melodies, and the band's approach in the studio is perfectly balanced, giving the songs a slight coat of polish that allows their virtues to shine through while sounding scrappy enough to reinforce their rock & roll credentials. The charging minor-key guitars and pummeling drums on "Travel Time" suggest a more tuneful variant on classic-era Sonic Youth (with a lyrical lift from Leonard Cohen for seasoning); there's an undertow of pure '70s swagger in the interplay of keyboards and guitars on "Dark Room" and "As Long as You Like"; the raunchy roar and nervous silences of "Old Hat" make for a spectacular closing number, and the arrangement on "When the Movie's Over" manages to sound grand and orchestral enough that you might not notice there aren't actually any strings on the track. Carlin Nicholson and Mike O'Brien of Zeus produced the album with the group, and they prove to be in excellent hands in the studio, giving the performances a clean, crisp sound that still sounds like a real band playing in real time, and the musicians -- especially Jessica Grassia on keyboards and Azzolini and Mike O'Brien on guitars -- don't miss a step. If the Golden Dogs aren't in the upper ranks of popularity on the Canadian indie pop scene, in terms of making a striking and thoroughly enjoyable album, they're close to the top of the heap, and Coat of Arms finds them coming back from a transitional period with all the strength, talent, and versatility you could ask for. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

Brothers in Arms $11.99 A powerful wartime saga in the bestselling tradition of Flags of Our Fathers , BROTHERS IN ARMS recounts the extraordinary story of the 761st “Black Panthers,” the first all-black armored unit to see combat in World War II. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar first learned about the battalion from family friend Leonard “Smitty” Smith, a veteran of the battalion. Working with acclaimed writer Anthony Walton, Abdul-Jabbar interviewed the surviving members of the battalion and their descendants to weave together a page-turning narrative based on their memories and stories, from basic training through the horrors on the battlefield to their postwar experiences in a racially divided America. Trained essentially as a public relations gesture to maintain the support of the black community for the war, the battalion was never intended to see battle. In fact, General Patton originally opposed their deployment, claiming African Americans couldn’t think quickly enough to operate tanks in combat conditions. But the Allies were so desperate for trained tank personnel in the summer of 1944, following heavy casualties in the fields of France, that the battalion was called up. While most combat troops fought on the front for a week or two before being rotated back, the men of the 761st served for more than six months, fighting heroically under Patton’s Third Army at the Battle of the Bulge and in the Allies’ final drive across France and Germany. Despite a casualty rate that approached 50 percent and an extreme shortage of personnel and equipment, the 761st would ultimately help liberate some thirty towns and villages, as well as the Gunskirchen Lager concentration camp. The racism that shadowed them during the war and the prejudice they faced upon their return home is an indelible part of their story. What shines through most of all, however, are the lasting bonds that united them as soldiers and brothers, the bravery they exhibited on the battlefield, and the quiet dignity and patriotism that defined their lives. |
