Which Ear Hearing Aid Do I Choose?
With the mound of information out there it can be a daunting task choosing which ear hearing aid is going to be right for you, but don't despair, along with an abundance of data comes sites that will literally take you by the hand and lead you to the perfect unit.
One of the first decisions you will have to make is whether to purchase analogue or digital and it will help to understand a little about both.
With an analogue unit the sounds you hear will be converted into electronic signals which will then be amplified before being passed through to the earphone on the hearing aid. You may find some analogue units can be programmed for different situations, whilst some can make sounds seem louder, but may not actually be able to discriminate between them. Analogue units are usually a little cheaper than their digital counterparts.
As for digital units, unlike analogue, they convert sounds that are processed more precisely via a tiny computer, which can also be programmed to suit an individual's hearing loss problem according to their lifestyle, for example in the workplace or in more social situations. Digital units will also suppress background noise, rendering speech easier to hear which is a bonus in especially noisy environments. Understandably, more often than not you will find that digital units are a little more expensive than analogue ones.
One of the advantages of modern technology is that you can have your unit custom made to fit your own ear canal, which means that the unit shouldn't keep slipping out so avoiding the need for constant adjustment, which in turn will render them almost invisible, which is an added bonus for the more self-conscious of us!
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of your new hearing aid you need to bear in mind is that you can have some units pre-programmed with your own hearing test results from your doctor, supplying a unit that is unique to you.

My friend put one of his hands over my ear then with his other hand he slap his hands together. We were wrestling. My ear seems to be ringing more now but it doesnt sound as if its damage just seems to ring more often. Im already hard hearing so tell me what you think?
Your ear is very delicate and can be very easily damaged by people hitting it. The ringing is called tinitus and if it continues, you should get your doctor to refer you to an audiologist.

Although half of all deafness and hearing impairment is avoidable an estimated 278 million people worldwide are living with disabling hearing impairment (moderate or worse level of hearing loss in the better hearing ear). Many more have mild hearing loss and/or ear diseases. One quarter of hearing impairment begins during childhood and 80% of all deaf and hearing impaired people live in low and middle income countries. These problems can be life-long and sometimes life-threatening; they may have profound effects on: inter-personal communication education employment prospects social relationships and through stigmatization. They produce substantial economic burdens on countries. Some of the most effective and cost-effective interventions against ear and hearing problems can be implemented at the primary level by trained primary ear and hearing care (PEHC) workers or primary health care (PHC) workers or their equivalents. Used on a large scale these interventionswill have a major impact on the burden of ear disease and hearing loss. However most developing countries do not have PEHC workers and the topic is hardly addressed in the training of PHC workers. Workers in Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programmes rarely deal with this field. The Primary Ear and Hearing Care Training Resource addresses the urgent need for action to prevent and manage ear diseases and hearing impairment. The manuals provide practical information and guidance and can be used as part of a training course stand-alone training module or in a self-taught manner. They are designed to be useful to a wide range of primary health care personnel. The manuals can also be used to help communities understand common causes of deafness and hearing impairment and ways to prevent and/or treat the conditions. WHAT'S INSIDE THIS PUBLICATION?
