substitute bedding for a gerbil?
My mom says that bedding costs too much to buy all the time and I can't get a pair of gerbils if I can't find a substitute bedding.

It doesn't have to be reusable, but it would be cheaper if it was.
If you buy large bags of bedding, it'll cost less in the long run. I'm not trying to be disrespectful or mean, but if you can't afford bedding, then maybe you should reconsider getting gerbils. You need to be able to properly care for any pet, including get any supplies.
The thing with gerbils is that you do not need to clean out their cage every week. You can easily go 2-3 weeks without a chance. This definitely saves on bedding. My gerbils have a large tank, and I went probably 4 weeks without changing their bedding.

I don't use pine. I use aspen, but it's this brand and size bag of bedding. One bag of this lasts me 4-5 weeks.
