Medical event cover.?
Whw oh Why do Health and Saftey Executive or organisers of events never check the qualifications of medics employd on site, even now im retired as a medic When I go to events I somtimes ask to see thier qualifications.
On the bottom of their certificates it says they have completed the course but this is not a certificate of competency .
One person I found carrying a cardiac defibrillator and didnt have a clue how to turn it on,wich is probably just as well.
He was also carrying venous canullas & drip sets, ent tubes and stethescope,His excuse was although he is not qualified to use them it was just in case there was a Dr on site who could.
It infureates me that these cowboys are playing with ppls lives.an no one seems bothered till the S**T hits the fan and then it to late.
Any observations please.
i agree entirely i was a paramedic for eleven years, did six week basic course, a driving course, year as trainee and only then was i considered a qualified ambulanceman or as they now say emt or technician. now someone with no skills can take a weeks course and call themselves an emt, i run a very small private company and i work like the nhs, someone who has done these type courses will only be allowed on a vehicle with a "qualified member of staff"- to me a county medic, military medic or voluntary aa2 who has been in voluntary for 5 years or more until they have a year with me and im happy with their standards- also if you organise events it may be worth asking whether the staff covering your duty have been crb checked
