Weird licking behaviour from my dog?
My dog has this 'spot' which he wants to lick all the time. Basically, I was wearing shorts a couple of weeks ago and he thought this was great and started licking my right knee and then the bit behind it where the leg bends. He was at it for a good 15 minutes. Anyway, ever since, if I'm just laying around, he will try and find this exact spot by grabbing my trousers with his teeth and trying to sort of roll them up to get to that spot. He can't really do it so he just licks that spot on my trousers instead.
I don't really mind him licking here, as it was quite therapeutic, but do you think it's harmful behavior and that I should discourage it or just let him lick away?
My dog does the same thing. It's a basic grooming behavior. Your dog thinks of you as part of his pack, and one thing dogs do is help keep each other clean. Behind the knee tends to be a sweaty place, and since your dog has figured that out, he is trying to help keep you clean.
I don't think it's harmful, but if it gets annoying (either to you, or if he starts doing that to other people) you might want to discourage it.
