5 Easy Ways and 1 Great Fruit to Lower Blood Pressure
It is not as widely known as one might think that there really is one great fruit that can lower blood pressure. The humble tomato has been proven, in recent Israeli studies to help lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cancer later in life, and helps to keep your heart healthy and working as it should.
It is not completely understood as to why this has only just recently been discovered, as scientists have tested thousands of different types of fruit and vegetables to determine their potential health benefits. The best news of all is the tomato is so easy to get a hold of. You can buy them almost anywhere, and even some of the big brands of tomato sauce contain enough real tomatoes to be just as beneficial, although not in massive quantities as they also contain rather a lot of sugar.
Fresh tomatoes are a very effective anti-oxidant and also help to reduce the risk of most forms of heart disease. Shocking that the Italians, who are well known for having a very low rate of heart disease cases reported, have been eating so many tomatoes for such a long time, and nobody has picked up on it.
The study on the health benefits of tomatoes was led by Dr. Esther Paran, who is the leading lady at the hypertension division of Soroka Medical Center. It was mostly a case study performed on patients suffering from hyper-tension, where other medicines had completely failed. Dr. Paran gave patients a dose of concentrated tomato essence, along with adding tomatoes into their diets, at least more than usual.
The results were astonishing. Dr. Paran saw results fast, sometimes in as little as four or five weeks. This aqueous fruit definitely looks to be an almost miracle treatment, although it is not a cure.
The effectiveness of the tomato in lowering blood pressure etc. is attributed to the natural presence of the chemical lycopene. This is a very powerful anti-oxidant that has recently been extracted from "hybrid" tomatoes that were grown in Israel, called the Lycomato, which were specifically grown to ensure higher concentrations of Lycopene, inside each and every piece of tomato. Lycopene is not the only anti-oxidant that is naturally present in tomatoes. The long list make tomatoes a "super-food" in reference to lots of different potential heart conditions. Whilst tomatoes may not necessarily lower cholesterol, if you eat them regularly, they can help to prevent LDL cholesterol from sticking to the inside walls of the
Even during the peak growing season it can be difficult to consume four whole tomatoes each day, which is the recommended amount for having a positive impact on blood pressure. Here are some ways to get the benefits of tomatoes without having to eat them straight off the vine.
1. Make Chili. Using tomato puree, which is a concentrated form of tomatoes, as the base for your chili utilizes the antioxidants without the bulk of a whole tomato. Add some ultra-lean and high protein ground bison and kidney beans with minced garlic and onions, and cayenne pepper and you have a heart-healthy main course and a full day's allowance of tomato.
2. Take a leaf out of the Italian's book and eat pasta in a tomato sauce. Use olive oil to fry the onions and garlic, use tomato puree or paste to color the sauce, and use fresh and/or canned tomatoes to flavor and fill the sauce. Using this many tomato ingredients ensures that you will consume far more than the necessary amount of tomatoes and nearly ten times as many nutrients.
3. With any food you can have a side salad, as it does not add many calories. If you have one tomato, whole, sliced, it does not really matter how you eat, just that you do.
4. Drinking your own homemade tomato juice is one of the best ways to cram as many tomatoes as you can into a juicer, making sure that you have a huge dose of the beneficial anti-oxidants.
5. You can buy 200mg tomato supplement tablets. These are good for anybody that does not like the taste of tomatoes but still wants to use them as a medicine. When you take these tablets you are actually taking in more nutrients than you would if you ate the full recommended four tomatoes.
Eating more tomatoes reduces systolic blood pressure by up to 10 points and diastolic blood pressure by up to 4 points. It has definitely become apparent that tomatoes are very, very good for you, however they are prepared.

Promises in Blood $8.78 Death metal didn't originate in Scandinavia any more than jazz originated in New York City; the blues originated in Chicago; or Afro-Cuban son, mambo, guaguancó, and cha cha originated in Puerto Rico. But just as the Big Apple became synonymous with jazz, Chicago became a blues mecca and Puerto Ricans became major players in Afro-Cuban music, death metal/black metal is now closely identified with the Scandinavian countries. That is true of the ultra-harsh, totally unforgiving stuff as well as the more nuanced approach known as melodic death metal (which is closely related to symphonic black metal). But saying that melodic death metal has been a largely Nordic phenomenon in the '90s and 21st century isn't saying that it has become an exclusively Nordic phenomenon -- and on Promises in Blood, Florida's Paths of Possession remind listeners that there is no reason why American moshers shouldn't continue to participate. One shouldn't forget that before Sweden and Norway became such crucial players in death metal/black metal, Florida was the home of producer Scott Burns and sledgehammer bands like Deicide, Obituary, Death, Malevolent Creation, Possessed, and Cannibal Corpse. In fact, the lead singer on this 2005 release is none other than George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of Cannibal Corpse fame. But Promises in Blood isn't nearly as extreme as the grindcore that put Cannibal Corpse on the map. Fisher's vocals on this CD are generally a deep, guttural, demonic growl, but this time he is bringing his growl to songs that have real song structures and honest to God melodies. While Cannibal Corpse favorites like Butchered at Birth and Eaten Back to Life are exercises in brutality for the sake of brutality, Paths of Possession are -- for all their heaviness and intensity -- much more musical and nuanced. Promises in Blood won't go down in history as the most original CD of 2005, but it's a respectable demonstration of the fact that melodic death metal doesn't have to be Scandinavian to be worthwhile. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi Performers: George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher - Vocals; Jack Goodwin - Guitar; Jay Fossen - Guitar; Nick Goodyear - Drums; Randy Butman - Vocals (Background), Guitar (Baritone), Bass |

Transient Blood $17.58 The Kid aren't concerned with petty meanings, they want the consequences, the mixed emotions and the ultra-highs. They pin down that word by its strictest definition and force it to perform, reward and pay out. They make it dance until it smiles, spin until it laughs and I find myself selfishly joining in; foot-tapping, hands beating and body twitching all over. They make me crave multi-coloured lights, speakers as large as houses, and a chance to hold hands with that girl from a John Hughes movie. No problems, no worries; everything is magically washed away, except that moment between you and her and an empty dance floor." - Souls on tape.net "The Kid's sophomore album, Transient Blood. This is BBBD's first time listening to the Gothenburg quartet, but boy are they good. Imagine Sambassadeur merged with New Order circa 1987. The Swedes have a penchant for churning out tracks with heavy, super-catchy bass lines, playful synth riffs, and rhythm guitar parts that sound so in motion, so fresh and not boring like rhythm guitar tends to be. And the Kid does it best. The first single off the record, "Transient Dance," is a stunning jam that's reminiscent of cutesy European exports like Bonnie & Clyde and more recent New Order cuts like "Krafty." It's charming beyond belief, and the rest of the release holds muster well. Transient Blood is out now,, and you must purchase it if you hope to have an enjoyable summer ... or if you're looking for that perfect soundtrack for a house party, BBQ, whatever. It'll work." - Nik Mercer, Bibabidi.com Performers: Johanna Olsson - Choir, Chorus; Fredrik "Frippe" Eriksson - Saxophone |

Blood Alliance $11.98 Power Quest were formed by keyboardist Steve Williams in 2001, following his departure from DragonHeart, a band that would soon change its name to DragonForce and go on to great success in the realm of power metal. Power Quest haven't been as commercially successful as DragonForce, but their songs are better. They're catchier in a classicist, AOR way, with plenty of keyboards and ultra-clean vocals in between the shredding guitar solos. Power Quest play it pretty down the middle as power metal goes; their songs aren't as speed-crazed as those of DragonForce, Gamma Ray, Firewind, Helloween, or other similar bands, and they don't do epic concept albums about fighting dragons and recovering magic swords from caves or anything like that. Indeed, it's hard to say what their songs are about -- the lyrics are strings of banal clichés meant to bridge the gap between solos. Things get a little ridiculous at times -- the synth intro to "Survive" is brain-meltingly cheesy, and the song as a whole just sounds like Williams is trying to make DragonForce take him back, while "Better Days" sounds like it was written to soundtrack a training montage in an '80s movie about a high-school wrestler recruited to battle Soviet soldiers, or something. But it's all still pretty thrilling, if power metal is your thing. And that's the key to appreciating Blood Alliance. It's a power metal record that stays firmly within the stylistic borders of that genre. There's no olive branch extended to people who don't like endless guitar solos, anthemic choruses about nothing, or fleet-fingered synth melodies. But fans of all those things will find much to enjoy. ~ Phil Freeman, Rovi |

Legacy of Blood $13.58 With violent imagery so rampant in the past decade of hip-hop, the fact that Jedi Mind Tricks' third album manages a cover shot that actually succeeds in shocking is either impressive or disturbing, depending on your disposition. Same goes for Vinnie Paz's tougher-than-leather flow that hollers down "faggots" and paints pictures of ultra-violence in a way that would make A Clockwork Orange seem almost friendly by comparison. This is hard music for hard times, and it makes no concessions to the blinged-out mainstream on JMT's left flank, nor the conscious emo-rap on the right. But walking the middle ground, he declares "I don't want to die anymore/I don't want to cry anymore/Don't want to lie anymore...I just want y'all to be dead" on "The Worst," and it's hard to sympathize. Producer Stoupe's minor-key beat suites chime melodically, yet feature tempos just quick enough to keep up with Paz's manic energy. In fact, keeping up with Paz gets exhausting at points, but guest MCs Des Devious, Sean Price, and Killah Priest keep up nicely with the absolutely stunning rhymes by GZA on both versions of "On the Eve of War," and actually have a calming effect (despite the album's hokiest beat on the main version of the cut). Though probably too aggressive for anyone old enough to clearly remember JMT's classic 2000 album, Violent By Design, Legacy of Blood is not without its moments. But after five years, Paz should have found at least one more subject to rhyme about. ~ Joshua Glazer, Rovi |
