Lightweight Folding Wheelchairs for Travelling
Lightweight wheelchairs can weigh as little as 30 lbs and when folded down can be small. This can be great if your travelling to the doctors or shopping or even going for that next holiday as they can be nicely folded in the back of the car. Lightweight wheelchairs are designed for durability and safety and are technically more advanced than other standard wheelchairs.
Some features of typical folding lightweight wheelchairs
The wheelchair has a lightweight steel frame which weighs an approximate weight of 13 lbs and has fully padded upholstery. The armrests that are foam padded can be folded down to the seat level. There are alternatives to the folding type of wheelchair as they also have a rigid frame lightweight wheelchair.
Lightweight wheelchairs are designed for Elderly users
A Lightweight folding wheelchair is actually more geared towards older users who require the ease to fold design. The wheelchair is not designed for the user to fold up, but actually from the assistant to do.
A big disadvantage of lightweight folding wheelchairs is there lack of flexibility to be costumed to the users need and size, as they need to fold they have little adjustment so not to affect the folding movement. Compared to rigid wheelchairs that don't need to fold and hence can be adjusted to suit the person's needs.
Due to this fixed design they normally are not that comfortable and are good for short trips and not for the whole day. But as they selling point has been they are light and ease transported they are still very popular with others.
Maintenance and Care of lightweight folding wheelchair
Folding wheelchairs will need more maintenance than others as they fold and have many joints, and if not maintained. The frames are weak as they are thin to keep there weight down. The frames also bend easily as they are folded frequency.
Maintenance of all parts of your wheelchair is important and if not used often should be kept in the house and not left in the weather. You don't want the day you require the wheelchair you find the nuts and bolts rusty and unable to unfold.
Good thing about lightweight folding wheelchairs is that people who don't normally use wheelchairs can use them as normal wheelchairs sand get on with there life.

I had surgery for a broken foot, and now I'm in a huge cast. Where can I find a sock that will cover my toes?
and stay on? Like I said, this is a huge cast, actually more like a ton of padding wrapped w/ ace bandages. I get a hard cast in about two weeks, but i still need to go out and its cold.
Also, where can I get a wheelchair that will elevate my foot? it hurts when I try to walk on crutches.
the main issue re the crutches is that my foot is still very swollen, esp. when not elevated. The ice and wet floors is a problem too. yesterday i planted my foot on the floor when i slipped, and it is still throbbing.
