how to wrap an ankle?
Hey today in field hockey, i fell on my ankle and i heard a crack.
it is really swollen almost like a mini water balloon...
is there a way that i can wrap is with pre-wrap and tape so that it won't hurt as much or should i just get a brace? thanks

Strains and sprains are the most common ankle injuries. A strain is when muscles or tendons stretch or tear. A sprain is when ligaments, which connect bone to bone, stretch or tear. Twisting your ankle may cause a strain or a sprain. You may hear or feel a snap, pop or crack when injured.
The first step in treating most ankle injuries is rest, ice, compress and elevate (RICE). This RICE method can ease pain, speed recovery and be helpful if used right away after an injury.
RICE method
Rest. For most injuries, rest the area until the pain decreases. Use the injured ankle as little as possible.
Ice. Ice is the most effective treatment for reducing inflammation, pain and swelling of injured muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. The cold helps keep blood and fluid from building up in the injured area, reducing pain and swelling. Apply ice as soon as possible after injury, even if you are going straight to the doctor. To speed recovery and ease pain, raise the injured area and apply ice for 20 minutes (10 to 15 minutes in children) every two to three hours while awake.
Compress. Between icings, wrap the injured area with an elastic bandage to help control swelling and provide support. Begin at the toes and wrap to the mid-calf. Do not sleep with the wrap on, unless told to do so by a doctor. And do not wrap too tightly! If the wrap begins to cause pain or numbness, or if toes become cool or white, remove the elastic bandage and wrap it more loosely.
Elevate. Raising the injured area above your heart will allow gravity to help reduce swelling by draining excess fluid. At night, place a pillow under the area to support and raise it.
When to see a doctor
If your ankle is obviously deformed, very painful or unable to bear any weight, see your doctor. If you are using the RICE method for a sprain or strain, swelling should stop within 24 hours and your ankle should begin to improve (although it won’t be healed) within 48 hours. If it doesn’t, see a doctor.
Most sprains are on the outside of the ankle. Because of the ligament’s strength on the inner ankle, bone often will give way before the ligament does. Pain on the inner ankle may be a fracture, so you should see your doctor for X-rays.
If you have diabetes, ankle injuries may be more serious for you and more difficult to heal. You need to be careful when icing an ankle, as decreased ability to feel cold could lead to soft tissue ice burns. People who have diabetes should see a doctor about any ankle injury.
